Book of the Month – April – Working Well: What You Need to Know to Live a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life

Working Well Book

This month’s book of the month is actually my latest wellbeing book – Working Well: What You Need to Know to Live a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life. I’ve written this with a co-author, Andrew Sharman, who is a world leader when it comes to leadership in the health & safety sector with clients ranging from top Formula One teams to the World Health Organisation and UN.

We teamed up to write this book which is simple, practical and can be read by even the busiest of professionals in under two hours.

Wellbeing, resilience and mindfulness are all the rage in today’s modern workplaces as organisations and leaders recognise their value to high-performing teams. But with the plethora of information and advice out there it’s complicated. It needn’t be.

This book introduces an innovative perspective and practical approach to reducing stress and boosting wellbeing in a meaningful and holistic way so that you live a longer, happier, healthier life (with more fun, more sex, a better job, and more money!).

As our lives get busier and busier, boundaries between work and leisure blur and we spend less time thinking about what we’re actually putting our bodies through. This fast-living is resulting in a pandemic of ‘ill-being’: from general weariness and ‘feeling under the weather’ to prolonged bouts of sickness, lethargy and sharp increases in stress, depression and mental health issues.

Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung diseases are now the four main causes of non-communicable disease death, making up around 70% of all deaths (around 17 million) across the world each year. By the year 2030 the figure will top 24 million. The way we’re working clearly isn’t working.

Throwing cutting-edge science, global data and inspirational thinking from the likes of Bruce Lee, Isaac Newton, George Bernard Shaw, Barack Obama and Yoko Ono into their blender Hari and Andrew serve up a slice of easy-to-swallow practical guidance delivered through a straightforward five-step process they call SONAR.

You’ve heard of sonar, right? An acronym for SOund Navigation And Ranging, it’s a technique that uses sound –underwater (as in submarines and dolphin) – to navigate, communicate with, and detect objects below the surface.   There’s active sonar (where sound is emitted and bounces back after making contact) and passive (where the detects and listens to sound waves coming towards it). Both are really cool.

In this entertaining read, we share our S.O.N.A.R. process for detecting what’s going on under the surface of you, and a box of tools to help you tune into yourself and the world around you, setting you apart from your peers by super-charging your wellbeing, boosting resilience and accelerating personal performance.

Check out this science-based, fast-paced, fun, interactive book to:

  • Understand why the way you’re working isn’t working
  • Learn what future high-performing professionals can do to perform at their best
  • Unlock the five stress-busting secrets of the world’s most effective leaders (clue: the five secrets are embedded in the word SONAR.)

I’m really proud of this book. Initially I was a little apprehensive to write such a quick read. Would anyone want it? It’s only 113 pages long. What I’ve found out though from initial feedback is that in addition to the style of writing (simple, to the point, no jargon) and the design (colourful, full page quotes, great quality) people really like the fact that it is a short book, but with the information of books ten times as big. It’s meant that even the most ardent non-reader is reading and enjoying the books.

Where to pick one up. You can currently only get them here: http://fromaccidentstozero.com/product/working-well/ which is my co-author’s site (you can hop to that link from my website too). Because you are a reader of my blogs and articles, I’m offering a 25% discount on the prices (works for multiple purchases as well). Just enter the code HARI at check-out.

Let me know what you think of the book if you’ve read it, and also – what’s your top tip to working well?
