CORONAVIRUS – Simple Practical Steps, we as individuals can take

Coronavirus Advice Hari Kalymnios The Thought Gym

So, people are asking me about my opinion on the CORONAVIRUS. I guess because I’m all about health, wellbeing and energy. Well, I’m not a virologist, biologist or otherwise oligist to speak with any authority on the virus. However, I would CONTROL WHAT I CAN CONTROL. What does that mean? From my understanding, as with many things, if you can do what you can to boost your own IMMUNE system then if you do get it, I presume you are more likely to cope better with it. That’s certainly been my experience when I’ve been unfortunate enough to develop a cold or the flu in the past.

How to boost your immune system? Things I do anyway, and not especially for this current climate include (but not limited to):

  • Prioritise quality SLEEP (7-9 hrs for most people. Perhaps skip that Netflix boxset tonight?)
  • Drink plenty of quality WATER (for more on my thoughts on how much read here: https://harikalymnios.com/lacking-in-energy-hit-the-bottle
  • Get plenty of MOVEMENT in throughout the day. Every hour for 3-5 minutes, if possible.
  • EXERCISE regularly. For more on what’s the best exercise read here: https://harikalymnios.com/what-kind-of-workout-is-the-best
  • Eat plenty of VEGETABLES. I personally would shoot for 10+ portions of vegetables a day
  • Limit (or better still, ELIMINATE) SUGAR
  • STOP (or limit) eating PROCESSED FOOD. Regardless of diet philosophy, a PANLO 80/20 approach might be something to consider? Read about that here: https://harikalymnios.com/how-to-fuel-yourself-for-success-at-work-home-and-in-life-feel-super
  • Get some HEALTHY FATS into the diet (e.g. avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil)
  • Do what you can to REDUCE INFLAMMATION (avoid fizzy drinks, sugars, processed foods, excess stress, add in Omega-3 fats, reduce Omega-6 fats)
  • Introduce lots of PRE-BIOTIC and PRO-BIOTIC foods into your diet. Pro-biotics are the good bacteria (found in Kimchi, Sauerkraut and other fermented foods). Pre-biotics feed the good bacteria (found in Garlic, Leeks, Onions, Artichokes, Asparagus etc)
  • LIMIT STRESS – Meditate, practice mindfulness, yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, go for a walk in NATURE, prayer, focussed breathing techniques, laugh etc.
  • Get plenty of SUNLIGHT (obviously without burning – not really an issue in the UK in March, mind you!)
  • Consider SUPPLEMENTATION. I currently supplement with a few things, most of which you can learn about here: https://harikalymnios.com/supplements-i-take-and-maybe-you-should-too In addition to those in the blog, I also take Fenugreek (mainly to boost testosterone) and Astaxanthin (big antioxidant), which I started after writing that blog.
  • And obviously, AVOID ALCOHOL & SMOKING

Again, I’m in no way saying that this will stop you getting ill, but in terms of CONTROLLING WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL, that’s just some of the things you could consider. And it’s not an exhaustive list. I’m sure the bio-hackers of the world have lots of other tricks up their sleeve (me too), but no need to get into all of that.

Of course, also follow government guidelines to limit exposure – washing hands for 20 seconds (if there’s one thing this situation has taught me, it’s that many people really don’t know how to wash their hands properly!), covering coughs/sneezes, avoid touching face with unclean hands, avoiding public surfaces like handrails if safe/possible. The usual stuff.

I do think that although it’s great to be aware and up-to-date of the situation, there’s no need to stress out about it, or get caught up in the media frenzy. CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL, COPE WITH WHAT YOU CAN’T AND CONCENTRATE ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT. Let the governments do what they are going to do, and you do what you can do.

Hopefully that helps?
