September Favourite Things

It’s time for my favourite things to help you feel SUPER! As ever, I like to share with your items, ideas, podcasts, apps, and general paraphernalia that I use that improves my life in some small way. Helps me be a better person, leader and feel superhuman.

So let’s get started.

1) Libre Tea Infuser

This is a tea infuser which is great. It’s great because you can take it with you on the road and to work, and put fresh tea leaves into it, and not worry about them coming into the cup. It’s also plastic on the outside, so durable, but glass on the inside, so the taste stays nice (with no plastic residue leaching into the tea). We should (in my humble opinion) include more teas in our diet (non-caffeinated herbal teas I mean). Why? Apart from the lovely taste of them (there are hundreds to try, so I challenge anyone not to find one they like), they are usually super good for you, but more importantly get most people drinking more water!

And as leaders, decision makers, entrepreneurs, we need to be well hydrated, as poor hydration leads to fatigue, illness, poor decision making, irritability and a whole host of problems that busy professionals like you and I don’t want to encounter if at all possible.

2) Citricidal Grapefruit Seed Extract

This stuff tastes horrible! Let’s just get that out the way. But, it’s antimicrobial, anti-viral, and with the cold season coming, it helps prevent colds before they take hold. I would add 4 – 12 drops (read the label) into my fresh vegetable juices (hides the flavour), but you can have it just with water. WARNING – because it’s so effective, it can interfere with medications if you are on any, so I would read the labels and consult your doctor if you are on any medications, prior to take this.

3) Mineralised Shower Heads

Tap water is full of chemicals, impurities and other compounds that you really don’t want being absorbed through your skin (which does happen, especially in hot showers when your pores open up and these compounds get into your skin). If you also live in a hard water area, you’ll appreciate the dry residue that (or scale) that appears on the shower screen and bath area. Well, these shower heads help reduce some of the compounds (not all), but noticeably so. From the point of view of scale and also how soft the water feels on your body. They also reportedly help with your nails, skin and hair. I’ve personally not noticed anything but all those parts on me were pretty good beforehand! Perhaps someone with long hair can tell me what they notice. They’re not too expensive too, so worth checking out.

4) Lululemon Bag

Lululemon is everywhere it seems. Especially if into yoga (and now they are getting more into running and fitness in general). This bag is my mobile office. I keep everything I need in it for the day. Laptop, chargers, water bottle, smoothie bottle(s), gym kit, notepads, bike gear etc.

What I like is that it’s still pretty compact, and has lots of easy access compartments that I don’t need to reach into the main bag to get what I need out. Oh, it also hold my yoga mat (in a retractable compartment). You don’t need a yoga mat to make use of this bag though. It also seems to cope well with all the weight I carry (about 12kg usually). Plus having easy access to the laptop without having to dive full on into the bag is good too!

5) CBD Cream

cbd-cream-190

I recently discovered CBD. CBD is cannabidiol, and a key ingredient of cannabis. CBD is perfectly legal and it’s health benefits are only just now being researched at some depth. The human body has an the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is a group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors located in the mammalian brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, consisting of neuromodulatory lipids and their receptors. (Thanks wikipedia!). It’s reported that the CBD found in the oils and other products are vital for human health. I don’t know about that, but the cream sure does make the skin feel nice.

Some early studies show some good effects of CBD (in animals).  CBD is no psycho-active so you can’t get ‘high’ from it, so don’t worry about that.

Medical Properties of CBD: Effects – Antiemetic (Reduces nausea and vomiting), Anticonvulsant (Suppresses seizure activity), Antipsychotic (Combats psychosis disorders), Anti-inflammatory (Combats inflammatory disorders), Anti-oxidant (Combats neurodegenerative disorders), Anti-tumoral/Anti-cancer (Combats tumor and cancer cells), Anxiolytic/Anti-depressant (Combats anxiety and depression disorders)

I know it’s a bit of a mixed bag (pardon the pun!) of recommendations this month, but give them a try and see what you think of them.

Let me know your experiences.
