This month I want to share with you a book that tackles a serious subject. That of mental health. I had read one of Matt Haig’s books in the past. A fiction book which I really enjoyed. This book is somewhat autobiographical. It details the author’s own struggles with anxiety and other mental health conditions that he endured (and still does to some degree). It’s written in a very real but funny way and addresses the serious health epidemic that we all (to some degree or another) suffer with.
According to MIND (the mental health charity) one in four of us suffer from a mental health condition in any given year, and in a recent survey of employees the numbers actually came out at one in two. One in six of us have a mental health issue each week.
While this book isn’t a substitute for treatment, it can help you feel that 1) you’re not alone and 2) there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Whether or not you believe that you suffer from any mental ill health, you will know someone that does. It can be a useful read to get a glimpse into how they might be feeling (recognising, of course, everyone’s journey with it is unique), and also help you in some way too.
