Lose Weight By Doing Nothing

Hari Kalymnios | Lose Weight

In this post I want to share with you how you can lose weight and improve your health by doing nothing differently at all!

Sound good?

Well, here it is.

A few years ago, some researchers from Harvard university (see full article link at the bottom) conducted an experiment with some hotel maids.

They explained to the group the importance of eating well, exercising etc and then let half go. The half that remained they also explained how what they were doing each day could be considered exercise.

i.e. Making the bed burnt 20 calories, hoovering another 100, walking up the stairs another 50 and so on (I’ve made the numbers up by the way, but you get the point!)

After four weeks the researchers returned.

To their amazement the hotel maids who had been told that what they were doing was exercise had showed a decrease in weight, blood pressure, body fat, waist-to-hip ratio and BMI (body mass index).

And they hadn’t done anything differently! No more exercise, no more rooms – nothing.

Just knowing what they were doing was considered exercise and how much it burnt was enough apparently.

This finding has been put down to the placebo effect (whereby the mindset controls changes in the body from a physiological point of view which can’t be explained through drugs).

Isn’t that astonishing. Simply by knowing what you are doing is good for you makes it more effective than simply doing it!

What a great start to the New Year. Simply quantify the activities you are doing each week into how many calories you are burning and you’ll find even greater benefit.

What do you think about that? Comment below please!
