Favourite Things – November

As each month for 2016, I’m listing a few of my favourite things that I use regularly to help me feel SUPER!

[1] Amazing Grass Supergreen Blend

This product is a blend of various grasses like wheatgrass, barley grass, alfalfa grass, as well as extracts from spirulina, and veggies like broccoli and spinach. It also contains both probiotics (friendly bacteria you need) and pre-biotics (the bacteria’s food). It also tastes amazing (no pun intended!). I’ve tried a few supergreen blends in the past and most don’t taste so nice. This one you can stir into your smoothies (I do that), juice, or just water (which I do sometimes if travelling without my blender). I really notice the difference in taste if I don’t add it (my smoothies don’t taste quite as nice as they normally do).

This particular flavour has a very high ORAC rating (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity – fights free radicals in the body), of 15,000 per 3.2 oz serving. Compared to 900 for broccoli and 210 for carrots.

I believe that everyone should be on some supergreen blend. Quite simply, most people do not get enough nutrients in their diet. Even if you think you do, bare in mind that the nutrient profile (even in organic veggies) is way less than it was 100 years ago. The soil degradation has seen to that. This is not only a great insurance policy, but I think it’s a necessity.

[2] Probiotics

Probiotics (for – life) are good bacteria that keep our immune system functioning well as well as being vital for our overall survival. In fact we have 10x more bacterial cells in our body than we do human cells!

Whilst you can get probiotics from fermented foods, like kimchi, sauerkraut, yogurts, kombucha, and other places (and I do my best to), on a day to day basis, I like to have a supplement of probiotics too. It’s probably best to cycle through different brands and types from time to time, and look for ones with many billions of bacteria and as many different strains as possible. These are the ones I currently am using.

[3] EMF Phone Case Protector

This helps to shield my body from the worst of the electromagnetic frequencies (EMF’s) as a result of having a mobile phone on me. There is enough evidence in my mind to say we should be weary of EMF exposure. I personally rarely ever have the phone to my head(!), as I find my head heats up, I get a lock jaw and I get a head ache. I usually use a bluetooth device (which isn’t directly on the head), to make calls, or a regular headphone set.

And if you are a man reading this, you might want to think twice about having the phone in the pocket all the time. Here’s the conclusion from just one study on the effects of EMF on sperm quality

“A correlation exists between mobile phone radiation exposure, DNA–fragmentation level and decreased sperm motility.”

I bought this one from Wavewall, which apparently does the job of shielding one side, while allowing a signal to enter from the other. And added to that, I aim to have the phone in my back instead of on me.

[4] Toe Spacers

These are to widen the space between your toes, which traditional modern footwear narrows, to the point it really affects your feet adversely. These ones you can walk around in quite comfortably and I really like them. Don’t wear them with regular shoes though as you will feel very uncomfortable. Best when at home or wearing barefoot style shoes/trainers like vivobarefoot.

Buckled-up feet, overlapping toes, and even bunions and hammertoe can be caused by restrictive footwear and years of walking poorly. Not to mention your gait is affected too. Help stretch the shortened connective tissues of your feet so they regain their natural shape and range of motion using something like this.

I bought mine from here: https://shop.yogabody.com/yoga-props/Awesome-Toes.html

[5] Turning off wifi at night

I turn off my wifi at night because I don’t believe we should expose ourselves any more than absolutely necessary to these EMF’s, which will (I’m sure in the next 10-20 years) be recognised as harmful to us. There are already studies showing evidence to damage to our DNA (see above) and these EMF’s can affect our mood, energy levels and more. I use WiFi all the time. I am right now, in fact.  But do I need to have that going overnight?

No. While I can’t control what my neighbour does, and the WiFi signal passes through the ceiling or walls, I can control what I do. So I will.

If you forget to turn it off, you could always put one of those timers to automatically turn it on/off for you each day. I’ve just gotten into the habit now as part of my nightly routine.

OK, I recognise that the explanations were brief, but trust me, these all help to make you feel that little bit more superhuman.
